Symptoms of celiac disease in toddlers are various. It may only one symptom that happens in one toddler while some symptoms happen in another toddler. Celiac disease is a nuisance in digestion system where the small intestines are damaged because the body is not able to digest gluten, which is the protein that is found in oats. This kind of disease is able to have happened in both adults and toddlers. But the symptoms happen in adults and toddlers are different. Here are the symptoms of celiac disease in babies.

Symptoms in Digestion System

The first symptom when a baby gets celiac disease is diarrhea. If it is noticed, the color of the feces is paler and the smell is more stinky. In some babies, the feces looks like containing fats or oil. Another symptom of celiac disease in toddlers which usually happen is constipation. 

Symptoms in Stomach

The babies who suffer celiac disease will experience pain and swelling in their stomachs. Their stomachs may also be filled with air. Some babies also experience nausea and vomiting. In many cases, those kinds of symptoms are often ignored because those symptoms are considered as the common symptoms from a common disease that usually attack babies.

But if the pain in the stomach and the vomiting are chronic, the babies should be brought to hospital or pediatrician for the further medical check. Because those may be the symptoms or a more serious disease.

Symptoms in Behavior

Some toddlers become easier to be angry if they get celiac disease since the disease really bothers them.  Some symptoms of celiac disease in toddlers such as nausea and vomiting will bother the babies since they are not able to communicate what they feel yet. 

Weight Loss

Weight loss is the symptom of celiac disease that can be happened not only in toddlers but also adults. It is because the body of the sufferers cannot absorb nutrition, especially gluten since their small intestines are damaged. This kind of symptom of celiac disease will be looked more in babies. The disease causes stunted growth so that the babies look smaller for their ages. 

Other Symptoms

Other symptoms of celiac disease that may happen are sprue, pain in the joint or bone, fatigue, and discoloration of the teeth. But these kinds of symptoms of celiac disease are rarely happened compared to other symptoms especially digestion system symptoms. 

How to Overcome Celiac Disease?

The babies who suffer celiac disease need to avoid foods which contain gluten, such as oats. They need to avoid all kinds of foods which contain oats or are made from oats. The babies are still allowed to eat fish, eggs, meats, fruits, and vegetables. Avoid foods that contain gluten for at least 2 weeks in order to get the symptoms better. And it will be better to bring the babies to a pediatrician in order to know more what to do and what not to do. Those are the tips to overcome celiac disease and symptoms of celiac disease in toddlers.
